HAPPY 2025! HOORAY! HAPPY YEAR THAT PACIFIC RIM IS SET IN! i spent new years watching superstore and trying to not hear the fireworks because well i hate fireworks. but i do love superstore. my serializd wrapped finally generated also and i got my storygraph year in review so obviously i needed to put all my faves down and my news for the rest of the year!

in personal terms 2024 was a decidedly difficult year for me. i miss my cat more than could probably possibly be communicated verbally and i was ill between like august-september for reasons and i hated this school semester with a passion. getting to work/volunteer at the zoo definitely skewed my average mood a lot higher, which i am really grateful for. i honestly don't think i could have handled most of things happening this year if i hadn't been at the zoo. that said, here are some little things that happened to me that i'm grateful for:

ultimately, it wasn't all bad. i am really excited for the new year though, however dubious i find the actual holiday to be.

media in review

47, 516 minutes of television

that's about a month and 2 days for everyone who would rather not do the math. if there is one thing you should take away from my site it's that i watch an almost egregious amount of television. i love television. my top show was modern family. this is not because its my favorite show it is because it is literally 11 seasons long and i watched in full like three times. because thats just who i am. my other top 5 were malcolm in the middle, brooklyn 99, gravity falls, and the terror. well yes!

the best (new) shows i watched this year

i'm a notorious rewatcher which is why my top shows are... like that. but i did really enjoy some new shows this year. some honorable mentions include pose and the third season of reservation dogs. uayyyy. i loved the english teacher please watch this edit immediately. gwen my bbg^_^ mostly i just recommend you watch malcolm in the middle though. my all time fave. my tv resolution for the new years is to watch everything i can from the star trek franchise (currently on S01E06 of TOS!) and probably rewatch malcolm in the middle again. thanks okay moving on. i watched a grand total of 7 films, but if you count all the times i rewatch venom and venom: let there be carnage i watched 27 films. i hate movies so lets move on to books:

72 books

my goal was originally 75 but i fell off so bad in nov/dec that i lowered it to 70 so i could feel satisfied. i do not really feel bad about that. i read some truly excellent books this year but these are my favorites from my five stars this year!

my favorite books of 2024

of all of these i think on fragile waves, fifth sun, and annihilation come in tied at the top. how it all ends directly underneath them. oh my god. emma hunsinger the cartoonist you are. this year i found myself reading a lot more nonfiction and sci-fi. i'll read anything, really, but it's been a while that i've found any kind of real "high" fantasy i've enjoyed other than the goblin emperor, which was really just a court drama with goblins instead of humans, let's be real. i have a lot of books already on suspended hold that i'm really excited to read. i love to stagger my holds so i never go without a book.

other things

music: i listened to ~35k hours. my top songs were:

finished sketchbooks: just one!

my old sketchbook and my new sketchbook for this year!

2025!

there are lots of exciting things happening in my life that happened to me pretty much simultaneously in december LOL, some of which will end up on my site! first and foremost, i was accepted into the shortbox comics fair which has been one of my goals for a while. i'll likely be producing a fiction comic for the first time ever and i'll have a dedicated page for process updates soon. obviously going to be about my funny little guys. my goal is to ultimately have a relatively large body of work about them because i think it'd be fun to compile a mixture of graphic and written stories.

i also got accepted into another horticulture internship, so i'd like to make it a goal to keep my shrine for it updated and organized so i can keep my notes in it! and i may get to help out with some illustration for my local museum's vertebrate paleontology collections which i am especially thrilled about. my other goals are to read 100 books, start intentionally birdwatching (i got a superzoom for christmas!) and using my camera to take bird photos, volunteer with my local mask bloc, and get a job at the zoo!!!!
