evil december updates
hi fellow neocitiesers how are we all this fine exams season. i for one have officially called it on two of my four final projects and have been playing splatoon & rewatching bbc ghosts in my free time (all of the time). if anyone wants to play splatoon with me Please do tell me but i only play salmon run because playing against other people makes me break out in a stress rash and i'm not kidding. also happens to me when i play subnautica. i luv salmon run though and i've been getting good at it (profreshional +2 now).
it's been a while since i updated and while i'm loathe to talk about my personal life on such a public forum, i feel i should say that for the first time in like. several months at least. i'm finally regaining some semblance of normalcy. not that much though because i've had construction happening in my home since august and it's kind of killing me. also i really really hate school. essentially, i'm finally getting back on that neocities horse because i actually have the time and stamina to do so which is thrilling for me. i've also succeeded in peer pressuring several of my friends into making sites so that's definitely helped get me back into the swing of things. let me yap about other stuff now.
art
kind of unbelievable to realize but i haven't drawn anything but oc stuff since like may when i drew my awesome malcolm in the middle magnum opus. since then it's pretty much been a semi-consistent stream of original silliness. i did finish my portfolio site but i'm on the fence about connecting it to this site sinceĀ i use my real name for a lot of stuff and most of my comics are autobio. i guess if you find it you'll recognize it now lol. until i can decide how to proceed on that front i'm just going to be making pages for individual original works and adding all the pertinent artwork on there. i also want to institute a "new" art area that updates when i finish something because i'm sad i don't use instagram or tumblr anymore. it's kind of infuriating because i want cool art mutuals but i don't post so i can't make friends without looking weird (in my mind). oh well.
i've been back on a writing kick too which is great because i spend most my time walking around thinking about my ocs now. i'm so shy about my writing but i'm going to put up two of my completed short stories that kinda sorta go in a set soon, along with the contextual oc pages. thank you again to whoever posted on my guestbook that my excerpts were well written i almost cried. i've been drawing my little freakies peregrine tochin everywhere i love having ocs its like being obsessed with a tv show except you get to choose what happens and no one else cares what's going on. if you're interested in keeping up with my art i post sporadically on my sheezy.art page slightly more often than i update my site.
i also visited portland for thanksgiving and put my digicam through its PACES at some parks so i might put those photos up soon. i think they turned out really cute.
media
terrorcamp is happening this weekend which is THRILLING. saw my dear sweet jared harris this evening and cried laughing when he and liam garrigan started chatting in the zoom conference room like they were on a phone call. i've also been rewatching the show with one of my zoo friends and i'm just floored everytime i rewatch. it's so lovely to catch new details or understand things i didn't get before. other tv stuff... erm i'm going to probably embark upon a star trek adventure (watching as many of the shows within the franchise as i can). not sure if i have the stamina for the original series but by god i'm going to try.
still not fully recovered from my foray into musical theater which is really embarassing but whatever. i'll probably put up a merrily shrine at some point soon because i'm obsessed with them. my household has placed a lifetime ban on the soundtrack being played in communal areas because they can't take it anymore and honestly i don't blame them.
in terms of reading i've been really behind... i forced myself to finish fifth sun by camilla townsend and ancillary mercy by ann leckie on the drive to portland and then got halfway through the corner that held them by sylvia townsend warner and entangled life by merlin sheldrake on the drive back. i love reading but i've been playing too much splatoon and watching too much modern family & ghosts to be caught up. thats my bad.
i LOVED fifth sun and ancillary mercy sooo much. i need to put the quotes i pulled from those books into the appropriate page and i think i need to add a medialog for them too. look out for that i guess. i will restrain myself from going into detail about how much i loved them here so i can put all my thoughts in my log :3... i also got an advance reader copy of absolution in literally like october and realized how much i hate reading pdfs. if the book is not directly in front of me it's not happening lol so i need to figure out how i'm going to convince myself to finish that. sorry jeff vandermeer. i also have a 16-book tall stack of library loans on my nightstand and i'm excited to read all of them but can't bring myself to start for some stupid reason. i only have 5 more books to go before completing my 75 book goal so i'm really going to try to get back on that too...
i recently discovered the magic of inter-library loans and checked out unravelling the franklin mystery by david woodman and complaint! by sara ahmed from lovely faraway libraries. ordering books from the library is the best. its like online shopping without paying any money. i own so many books atp that i can't bring myself to buy anything that i haven't read and liked yet so when i went to portland i only ended up buying myself one book, which was the revised edition of a field guide to identifying american architecture. i'm a big fan of domestic architecture so i was thrilled to get to bring that home with me.
site stuff
currently trying to find the happy medium between minimalist/responsive and endearingly over-the-top design which is annoying because i want everything to at least be kind of mobile functional but also i get bored by what is essentially just plaintext with no deco. whatever. i'll get there. i need my mitm shrine to be like 25% more visually obnoxious so i might just have to suck it up on the responsiveness front and make it weird. if anyone has any thoughts on how to do this i'd love to hear them.
my main priorities rn are mostly original stuff because i want to ramble about my ocs and make comics and be weird about normal things like the arctic. hopefully i can upload some of my botanicals to my hort shrine and make that page cuter as well... i mostly finished a comic about my time at the zoo and i might redact personal info from the pages and upload that :-). i also have an idea for a standalone kinda-blog and a kinda-about page. OH and i set up that guestbook widget so i'll put the page up for that soon too. other than that i'm just doing maintenance. rewriting everything to be in all lowercase because it looks cuter in this font. fixing all my random typos. yay!
thats all for now ^_^
